It could basically be anything we wanted - a music video, a television show, a film, etc. We basically have to pitch it like we’re actually pitching something to a studio or an artist, etc.
So anyway, my pitch is an American adaptation of QI. I’m probably going to pitch as if I’m speaking to BBC, trying to get them to greenlight an adaptation solely for BBC America, as they’ve yet to have any really pervasive hits with original programming in the US. That way you take a very British format for a show and make it appealing to the American people, bringing more people to BBC America and thus to their syndicated content they’re playing there as well. (Personally I would rather just see QI being played in the US but you know that wouldn’t really fit the parameters of my project, so…).
I’ve been trying to think of who the fuck could possibly be the American counterpoint to Stephen Fry, and jesus… I don’t think there’s anyone. We have fucktons of intelligent, quick, informed comedians that could easily be panelists (and I have a few people in mind to fill Alan’s role as the regular moron) but Stephen Fry, man. There just isn’t anyone else.
And then I was watching today’s Crash Course and all I could think was JOHN GREEN. JOHN GREEN COULD DO IT. JOHN GREEEEEEN.
So yeah, in my fantasy pitch for an Americanized QI (which will be really VERY similar to the original, but there will be more of a focus on American history and culture rather than British), John Green is now the host.
Also my professor wants me to bring ideas for a set design and I REALLY wish I knew someone who had taken interior or set design and could draw me up a rough prototype. :(
